The 2009 John Lennon Songwriting Contest is now underway with Session II. If you're not familiar with the JLSC, it's an international songwriting contest open to amateur and professional musicians. First held in 1997, the John Lennon Songwriting Contest features two sessions, where entrants can submit their original compositions in one of 12 categories - Rock, Country, Jazz, Pop, World, Rhythm & Blues, Hip-Hop, Gospel/Inspirational, Latin, Electronic, Folk and Children's. Instrumentals are also accepted into the contest.
After all is said and done, over $275,000 in cash and prizes will be awarded. In all, there will be 72 finalists, 24 grand prize winners, 12 Lennon Award winners and the "Maxwell Song of the Year." Judges in the 2009 contest include Fergie, Natasha Bedingfield, Bob Weir and Lamont Dozier, to name a few.
