J.Colb Profile
Name :   Colby Curry
Member Type :   Artist
Website URL:   www.myspace.com/jcolbhighlyhated
Bio :   Under a diversified influence from outstanding music icons ranging from Outkast to Tupac Shakur to Jay -z to Erykah Badu and all Old School R&B Soul music. Rapper, J.Colb, born Jonathan Colby Curry on December 14, 1984 in the small rural town of Lafayette, Georgia displays a natural talent in the art of MCing. Influenced heavily in his single parent household by his mother, Johnetta Allgood Mcsears, J.Colb was able to appreciate different types of music. Music has always been one of the most valuable aspects of J.Colb's lifestyle. His early rap career began as an 8 year old, writing the lyrics to his favorite songs and reciting them until they were memorized. "To me, it was important to know every word of all the songs I liked. It was like being apart of the song and I used to think I was killing it better than that artist sometimes, and it was THEIR verse." J.Colb then moved on to be a neighborhood freestyle king. He and friends used to meet up at different areas in town form cyphers and freestyle over any instrumental they could find or a human beatbox. During high school, J.Colb joined an Indie record company "Countrified Records", but never released any material due to legal problems with in the label. He was later dropped from the label and during this time started to hone his song writing skills. It wasn't until college that J.Colb truly decided to take his skills and start a career. " In my own opinion, as a Hip Hop artist, it's key to have tremendous song writing ability. You have to be able to touch people in your songs, to reach people. Music is an extension of one's self as well an inspirational tool. Fans can tell when your music is heartfelt and when it's watered down. Hence a lot of album flops lately. People are tired of buying albums with 4 decent cuts" J. Colb models an astounding ability to turn real life scenarios into original picturesque rhythmic poems. In the latter part of 2008, J.Colb Self Released Change Gone COme-EP. It's available via his myspace page and soon to be on Itunes. Change Gone Come has recived rave reviews from Internet Bloggers and Local Papers. J.Colb is also in the works of launching his own Independent label, Highly Hated Records. "We picked the name Highly Hated because when someone has the ability to change the masses they have a lot of haters. I'm saying our objective in this Industry it to be innovative and groundbreaking. We strive to make legendary music and with the right push I'm confident we can make it happen." J.Colb and Partner Diggy LP, have been performing around their college, The University of West Georgia at Free Verse events, Parties, and are gearing up for more promotional concerts to create a buzz for J.Colb's Self Released album, Change Gone Come/ "We have a lot of things planned. New artists must go extra hard to get their name out there. We are pushing 2 singles from my going to shoot a video for each. The website is coming soon so be on the lookout for that; Highly Hated Records.net". J.Colb definately has star appeal. His "country southern accent" is very distinctive over beats. J.Colb prides himself on making music from the heart with real life experiences and believes what makes an artist have longevity is being honest with fans and listeners. "Where I'm from you have to be able to seperate real from fake quickly or you'll be lost. I'm not a street dude. I've done dirt but who hasn't? I grew up around real people in the hood it's a lot easier to be yourself than pretend to be someone else." JColb has music that has such an original sound, even if you dislike the song you must admit, he was saying something on that track. J.Colb and partner Diggy LP met in college. Diggy LP sings all the hooks for J.Colb's music. These two are not to be mistaken for a group but more like "partners in crime" "Me and Diggy have good chemistry with music, I'll come to him with a hook to sing and he kills it every time or he comes already with a hook and I just do my part in writing the verses, thats how we work" The goal of Highly Hated Records is to become a force within the music Industry. J.Colb is trying to build a platform for himself as well as other artists who have an original sound. " Making good music is the only thing I think about most of every day." J.Colb plans to operate his own label as well as becoming a lengendary artist. "My goal is to help change the world for the better. In my opinion, Music is the Universal Language and should be treated as such. I want to make music that helps you get through your hardest days. If I can do that I've done my job. I listen to two songs every day of my life no matter what, "Times a Waistin" by Erykah Badu and "Die Trying" by Cee Lo." One day we want people to listen to our music and say the same things. .
